John Wesley Hall Sr., 81

John Wesley Hall Sr., 81, of Dagsboro, died at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., on Sunday, Feb. 5. He was a truck driver, and was Delaware’s oldest licensed trucker when he died.

He attended St. Mathew’s Baptist Church and St. John’s A.M.E., both in Bishopville, Md., The Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville and the Dickerson Chapel Church in Millsboro. He was a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge Chapter 14 and of the Trucker’s Association of Delaware. He was also a musician, who played the guitar, piano, organ, mouth organ and vocals.

He is survived by his wife, Mary M. McCall Hall; four sons, John W. Hall Jr. of Frankford, Billy Hall of Bridgeville, Michael Hall of Bridgeville and Paris Hall of Dagsboro; three daughters, George Anna Purnell of Frankford, Tyann Collick of Frankford and Tanya Parker of Wilmington; one sister, Anna Hall Fooks of Snow Hill, Md.; special friends, Jackie Hall of Georgetown and Louise Hall of Frankford; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Cavalry Pentecostal Church in Bishopville at 1 p.m. Friends may call two hours before the service. Interment is scheduled for the Zoar Golden Acres Cemetery in Bishopville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Cavalry Pentecostal Church in Bishopville or the St. Mathew’s Baptist Church in Bishopville.

Edith Mae Smith, 83

Edith Mae Smith, 83, of Dagsboro, died at Green Valley Terrace, in Millsboro, on Monday, Feb. 6. She was an attendant at the Stockley Center near Georgetown, before retiring in 1982.

She was a member of the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and attended Bethel United Methodist Church in Dagsboro.

She is survived by two sons, E. Sherman Smith of Millsboro and Barry Marshall Smith of Apache, Okla.; two daughters, Betty R. West of Frankford and Joyce A. Daisey of Ocean View; one brother, Robert Ketterman of Salisbury, Md.; one sister, Katherine Brown of Harrington; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl George Smith.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro. Friends may call at noon. Interment is scheduled to be in Prince George’s Cemetery in Dagsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 625, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Wanda Anita Holland, 54

Wanda Anita Holland, 54, of Frankford, died at Beebe Medical Center on Sunday, Feb. 5. She worked in housekeeping at Misty Harbor.

She was a volunteer at the Christian Storehouse in Millsboro and a member of the Antioch A.M.E. Church in Frankford.

She is survived by her husband, Russel Holland; her mother, Gertrude Bailey Hall; her son, DeAndre Holland of Frankford; two daughters, Valerie Antoinette Connor and Katara N. Connor, both of Fankford; one step-son, Russel Holland Jr. of Salisbury, Md.; four step-daughters, Takosha Evans of Delmar, Takisha Holland of Salisbury, Inez Snead of Seaford and Sheleena Parker of Georgetown; and three grandchildren, Martesha, Fabrea and Fabian Jr..

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, Feb. 13, at noon at the Antioch A.M.E. Church, where friends may call at 11 a.m. Friends may also call Sunday, Feb. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro. Interment is scheduled to be in the Union Wesley United Methodist Church Cemetery in Clarksville.

Catherine Harris Grimm, 84

Catherine Harris Grimm, 84, of Georgetown, died in New Castle on Wednesday, Feb. 1. She did office work and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret Harris, son Bradford Grimm and daughter Barbara Carter; grandchildren, Bradford Grimm Jr., Samuel Harvey, Annie Laurie Harvey, Mathew Carter and Catherine Carter; and a great-granddaughter, Bethany Li Grimm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradford, and grandson, Kai.

Funeral services were scheduled for Monday, Feb. 6, at Immanuel on the Green Episcopal Church in New Castle, and a reception was scheduled for that afternoon at St. Martha’s Episcopal Church in Bethany Beach. Interment was to be in St. Anne’s Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Lung Association, 1021 Gilpin Ave., Suite 202, Wilmington, DE 19806.

Harriett I. McClung, 82

Harriett I. McClung, 82, of Milleville, died at Beebe Medical Center on Sunday, Feb. 5. She was a cosmetologist, and owned and operated Harriett’s Beauty Salon for 60 years.

She was a member of Millville United Methodist Church, and was active in the church choir. She also was a former member of the Millville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Southern Delaware Hair Dresser’s Association.

She is survived by her son, Harry Ray McClung and daughter-in-law Luray Mitchell McClung; two grandsons, Aaron L. McClung of Chesterfield, Va. and Asher L. McClung of Millsboro; two brothers, Harry R. Cobb of Philadelphia and William J. Cobb of Dagsboro; and one sister, Violet Hudson of Dagsboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew E. McClung, a brother, Jesse Cobb and a sister, Hilda Savage.

Funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services. Interment was to be in Mariner’s Bethel Cemetery.
