Local stars shine bright

Harold Schmidt, “playwright in residence” for the Village Players Theatre Group, has a new offering on the way, slated for three dinner/dessert theatre performances next weekend, at the Den at Bear Trap Dunes, Ocean View.

Schmidt described his new play as a romantic comedy — but this should be a parents’ night out, he advised, as the dialogue includes some racy innuendo and adult language.

He described “Blind Man’s Bluff” as an exploration of “the nature of love, beauty and the complexity of adult relationships.”

All that, plenty of witty punchlines, ridiculous outfits and all-around general silliness.

The leading man (played by Bear Trap employee Demetrios Retzos) pretends that he’s suffering from temporary blindness, in an effort to woo an attractive woman (played by Lisa Griffith) who’s looking for someone who will love her for more than just her looks.

The play runs approximately 90 minutes, in two acts. The Saturday show is booked solid, but there are still a few tickets available for the Friday, March 10 dinner theatre (6 p.m., $35 per person) and the Sunday, March 12 dessert theatre (2 p.m., $20 per person).
