Bethany Beach
• The Bethany Beach Town Council will hold a public hearing on Friday, April 21, at 6 p.m. The items up for discussion at the hearing include: (1) proposed changes from the current Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) district to Municipal, Open Space, Recreational and Educational (MORE) to include town-owned property; (2) a proposed change to allow one year after preliminary planning approval to complete the process; and (3) a revised proposal to increase the height allowance to 35 feet, from 31 feet, for residences using a 7:12 or higher roof pitch over 60 percent or more of the roof.
• The Bethany Beach Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at the town hall. The agenda for the meeting includes: (1) discussion and possible vote on town council’s stance on the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company’s request for a variance for a 125-foot communications tower; (2) a possible vote on the above planning timetable change; (3) a possible vote on the above height allowance change; and (4) consideration of a paving contract for the coming year.
• There will be a special meeting of the Bethany Beach Planning Commission at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 21, to continue work on zoning code updates, which have been limited due to full agendas at the commission’s regular meetings.
• The Bethany Beach Planning Commission will meet Saturday, April 22, at 9 a.m., at the town hall. The agenda for the meeting includes: (1) a public hearing and final plan review for the PRD application of Thomas Haley for 3 Kent Avenue; (2) a proposal for a new zoning district for Sea Villas; (3) a proposal for a sequence of steps for a public hearing; and (4) discussion of a side encroachment allowance for corner lots.
• The Bethany Beach Architectural Design Guideline Committee for the C-1 and C-2 Zoning Districts will meet on Tuesday, April 25, at 10 a.m. The committee is set to review early draft elements for proposed zoning changes in the commercial districts with consultant architect Jeff Schoellkopf.
Fenwick Island
The Fenwick Island Budget Committee will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 24. The meeting is among the first of the town’s new budgetary cycle.
Ocean View
The town of Ocean View will hold a special town council meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, at town hall. Town officials plan to discuss, and consider an insurance contract for the town and a generator for the police station. They will then go into executive session to discuss personnel issues before adjourning.
Dagsboro
Dagsboro Town Council will meet on Monday, April 24, at 7 p.m., in the Bethel Center (107 Clayton St.). On the agenda: (1) ratification of a Gross Rental Receipts Ordinance, (2) ratification of a Building Fee Ordinance, (3) public hearing and consideration of an ordinance modifying height restrictions in all of the town’s zoning districts, (4) public hearing and consideration of an ordinance regarding authorized hours and dates of construction. Also, status of the water project, review and discussion of an Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance and a report from the town’s Planning & Zoning Commission covering approval of building permits, the town’s Comprehensive Plan, signage code, a “Welcome” sign for the town, project guidelines and progress and recommendations on several projects Chapel Crossing, the Mills Convenience Center, General’s Green and a Laundromat at the Bodies Dairy Market.
Sussex County
Sussex County Council will meet on Tuesday, April 25, at 10 a.m., in Council Chambers at the County Administrative Office Building (Georgetown). Community Development and Housing Director Bill Lecates is slated to deliver a report on interest in the county’s new Moderately Priced Housing Unit (MPHU) program, and request approval for submitted Requests for Proposal. Council is also scheduled to consider a rather aged request for change of zone the Riverview application, for a 72-unit residential planned community near Holt’s Landing under old business. More than a year ago, the county’s Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission unanimously recommended denial, primarily because of concerns surrounding a proposed 1,400-foot-long wooden bridge over the wetlands. There’s also a sheaf of wastewater agreements, for six phases at Bayside and one phase apiece at Fenwick Shoals and Swann Cove, all west of Fenwick Island.
