Wichmann facing censure motion
About a week after learning of Ocean View Town Councilman Roy Thomas’ intentions to censure fellow Councilman Bill Wichmann, Town Manager Kathy Roth sent a memo to Mayor Gary Meredith and Council, stating she that feels threatened by comments Wichmann allegedly made in a phone conversation.
Willey resigns on 'high note'
Millville Mayor Gary Willey publicly announced on Tuesday that he will resign his mayoral post on Sept. 1 after building a home with plans to move outside of town. Willey said that he and his family plan to move into the home which only sits about 55 feet outside of town limits in the middle of September.
Curbside recycling comes to Sussex County
The environmentally-conscious of Sussex County now have another option for getting rid of some of their household trash and it’s a convenient one. No longer will they be required to haul all their recyclables to the nearest drop-off location. They can now recycle from the comfort of their own curb.
Warranty 'void' on Ocean View generator
The Town of Ocean View narrowly avoided possible legal action late last month by paying Archer Electric the balance of the installation cost of the backup generator at the temporary police station. But problems with the generator still loom.
Debate continues over Fenwick FAR, survey, vote
Fenwick Island officials were still dealing with criticism this week of June 23’s 3-2 vote to adopt floor-area-ration (FAR) restrictions on properties in the town. At a July 8 workshop-without-agenda, the very first citizen question was as to exactly why the council had needed to vote on June 23, with two members absent.
Local, state officials educate bikers
In 2005, 26 bicyclists were injured on Sussex County roads and one was killed, according to Delaware Department of Transportation and Delaware State Police records. In Kent and New Castle Counties last year, 60 others were injured and another died while riding a bike, according to those same records.

In a marathon special session, the Bethany Beach Planning Commission on July 7 performed a page-by-page review of the proposed architectural guidelines for the town’s C-1 and C-2 commercial zoning districts, making their own recommendations for changes to the 40-page document before it heads to the town council in coming weeks for possible adoption.

The heavy rains have passed and the water left behind has subsided, leaving American Legion baseball coaches scrambling to reschedule games. With exactly two weeks remaining in the regular season, a number of teams will be stacking games one on top of another like Lincoln Logs, in a flurry of play that might be bad for pitching but will definitely impact teams’ hitting.

Sussex East’s latest addition, Sussex Central High School’s Brian Scott, has only played five games with the Warriors. But his presence has already been felt.
Watson wins his first at Georgetown
From the pole, 16-year-old, Milford native Joseph Watson won his first ever Crate Modified race at Georgetown Speedway last Friday night. Watson fought off two-time winner Ryan Walls of Laurel, down to an exciting narrow finish. Mark Byram earned the pole and showed the 18-racer field early on. Several laps into it, Watson worked by Byram as they exited turn two heading down the back straight.
