Bethany Beach
• The Bethany Beach Planning Commission will hold a special meeting on Friday, July 21, at 2 p.m. at the town hall to consider the most recent draft revisions to the proposed commercial architectural guidelines for the C-1 and C-2 zoning districts. Commissioners may vote to recommend adoption of the guidelines and related zoning ordinances by the town council.
• The Town of Bethany Beach will hold a public workshop on Friday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall, to entertain public input on and questions about the town’s proposed guidelines for commercial architecture in the C-1 and C-2 districts. A formal public hearing on the issue has been set for Monday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m., to potentially be followed by a council vote. The town’s commercial construction moratorium will expire on Aug. 9.
• The Bethany Beach Town Council will meet on Friday, July 21, at 7:30 p.m. The agenda for the meeting includes:
(1) discussion of a proposed charter amendment that would restrict potential uses of the former Christian Church and Neff properties town owned by the town and mandate a supermajority of council members vote for any future changes;
(2) first reading of an ordinance that would set porous surface requirements for driveways and walkways in the town;
(3) first reading of an ordinance requiring an engineering report on individual lots to show no negative impacts of grading, elevation changes or lot clearing on adjoining properties and the town’s stormwater system; and
(4) first reading of an ordinance clarifying when construction, lot clearing and earth moving activities may take place.
• The Bethany Beach Planning Commission will meet on Saturday, July 22, at 9 a.m. at town hall. The agenda for the meeting include discussion regarding development of requirements for open space and community amenities for new planned residential developments (PRDs); discussion regarding moving and relocating houses with the town; discussion of a possible public hearing for two proposed amendments to town code regarding Sea Villas; discussion of proposed amendments to the town zoning map with the MORE municipal zone; and discussion of updates to drafts of the commercial architectural guidelines.
• The deadline to file an application for candidacy in the Bethany Beach Town Council’s Sept. 9 election is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25.
• The Bethany Beach Bandstand performance series will continue this week with St. Paul’s Brazz on Friday, July 21; U.S. Navy Commodores Jazz on Saturday, July 22; and top-40 tunes from the Naval Academy’s Electric Brigade on Sunday, July 23 all at 7:30 p.m. Children’s theater performances of “Alice in Wonderland” will be held July 25 at 6 and 7 p.m. in town hall. Free tickets for the children’s theater will be available in town hall at 8:30 a.m. on July 25, while supply lasts (usually gone by 9 a.m.). There is a limit of six tickets. Fenwick Island
• Miss Susies’ Storytime will be presented in the Fenwick Island town park on Saturday, July 22, at 10 a.m.
• The Fenwick Island Parks and Recreation Committee will present Jazz in the Park in the town park at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 22.
Indian River School Board
The School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, in the Indian River High School cafeteria. School board members will discuss 2006 Delaware Student Testing Program scores, the 143rd General Assembly legislation that affected the district and hear committee, financial and administrative reports before entering into executive session and adjourning.
Sussex County
Sussex County Council will hold its regular weekly meeting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, in its council chambers in Georgetown. Engineers in attendance plan to discuss the Millville Expansion of the Bethany Beach Sanitary Sewer District and the South Coastal Library Building Expansion. Council members will then hear grant requests, proposed zoning ordinances and any additional business brought before council before entering executive session.
Millville
• Millville town officials will hold a workshop with the Millville Group at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at town hall to discuss the Route 17 Millville by the Sea Master Planned Community project.
• Town officials will hold a workshop with Home Depot officials on at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3, at town hall to discuss its Route 17 location.
