Notice, input issues plague Bethany meeting
Bethany Beach officials were again faced with criticism and dismay from constituents over issues of public input at an Aug. 7 special meeting that had originally been called for a possible vote on the town’s proposed commercial architectural guidelines.

Selbyville adopts national emergency protocols
Fenwick Island voters will take to the polls on Saturday, Aug. 5, to elect three new town council members to replace the three incumbents who stepped down this election season. According to Selbyville Police Chief Scott Collins, the town has been working on National Incident Management System (NIMS) implementation for the past year, and he characterized Town Council’s vote on the subject as a huge check-off ahead of the compliance deadline, Oct. 1.

Bethany adopts commercial guidelines
Bethany Beach Town Council members used refined wording at an Aug. 7 special meeting to resolve for themselves a split between the town’s planning commission and a committee appointed to develop guidelines for architecture in the commercial district. They voted 6-0 to adopt the draft guidelines with the proposed 8-foot setback for structural elements above 24 feet noted as “highly encouraged.”

Lack of license stalls residential co-op deal

Bunting, Tingle, Weistling elected in Fenwick
Fenwick Island has three new town council members set to come in at an Aug. 18 reorganizational meeting. With 266 votes cast at the polls on Aug. 5 and another 59 absentee-ballot votes counted, voters elected Gardner Bunting, Diane Tingle and Bill Weistling Jr. to two-year terms on the council.

IRSD schools 'superior'
After being rated as “commendable” last year, Phillip C. Showell Elementary School regained “superior” status when the state released its ratings Aug. 2, about two weeks after the release of the 2006 Delaware Student Testing Program scores were released on July 20.
