Breaking News - Bethany shakup continues with Trodden resignation
Dramatic fallout from Sept. 9’s Bethany Beach Town Council elections continued into Monday morning, as Planning Commissioner Steve Trodden delivered a letter to the Coastal Point office containing both continued criticism of the work of the Architectural Guideline Development Committee for the C-1 and C-2 Districts (AGDC) and its chairwoman, Vice-Mayor Carol Olmstead, and his resignation from the commission in the wake of Olmstead’s election Sunday as the town’s new mayor.
Breaking News - Walsh resigns from Bethany council
Bethany Beach Mayor Jack Walsh said of Saturday’s town council election results, “It’s a shocker,” referring to the ouster of incumbents Harry Steele and Lew Killmer from the council.
Breaking News - Bethany vote split on incumbents
Bethany Beach voters on Saturday, Sept. 9, changed the makeup of their town council by two members, retaining incumbents Tony McClenny and Jerry Dorfman but replacing veteran council member Harry Steele and 2005 appointee Lew Killmer with Planning Commissioner Steve Wode and part-time resident Tracy Mulligan.

Cooperative left hanging in rate change
Perry Mitchell, the volunteer head of Consumers for Alternative Power (CAP), an ambiguous local group seeking to save money on electricity, met with Washington Gas and Energy Services officials last week but did not make much more progress. In fact, in the ever-evolving energy market, he seems to have stepped backward.
Fall events kick off second season
Resort residents and visitors bade farewell to summer this week, ringing out the busy season for 2006 with musical celebration in Fenwick Island and the traditional Jazz Funeral on the Bethany Beach boardwalk. But with the season’s unofficial passing also comes the start of the time many look forward to even more than summer fall, and the second or “shoulder” season.
The Agenda
Storm puts damper on holiday weekend
Labor Day weekend 2006 was a mixed bag by all accounts.
Fall festivities for families, fundraising
Sunday will mark the first-ever Fall Festival for Life a family-friendly fundraising event for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Delaware that is being organized by Marian Parrett, general manager of Bethany Beach’s Sedona restaurant.
What's eating away at you? Teen girls and eating disorders
We live in a world today where image is everything. So many of us would like to have the perfect family, the perfect home, the perfect car and, yes, even the perfect physical form.
Route 1 work to cause big delays
In a way, residents of and visitors to the Bethany Beach corridor are lucky. The Route 1 expansion from Route 9 to Route 24 in Lewes and Rehoboth has no direct impact on the area. But, without a doubt, the expansion’s impact will be felt through Rehoboth, to Bethany and beyond especially if visitors aren’t properly informed.
South Bethany reexamines fees, recycling
South Bethany Town Council members dove into a hefty sheaf of issues at their Aug. 24 special meeting/council workshop, addressing everything from fines for tall grass and municipal recycling to beachside smoking and planned canal dredge and tidal pump project bids.
This just in
Millville Town Manager Linda Collins’ goal for the next year is to set up a Web site for the town. Locals could find out information about Millville on the prospective site, read minutes, check a calendar, read proposed ordinances, even fill out forms. Such a site could also relieve some of the town employees’ work by providing another outlet of information, she said.

Art is the star
Each year, Bethany Beach closes its summer season with the traditional farewell of the Bethany Beach Jazz Funeral on Labor Day. And, on the following Saturday, residents and visitors alike look forward to a slightly more relaxed post-summer atmosphere as they browse around the boardwalk and take in and take home the best art the area has to offer.

Deli offers fresh dining option
Growing up in Williamsville, Shawn Truitt and her mother Jackie Dickerson didn’t have to go far to get a good dinner. Local bars were, and still are, good for leisurely meals and appetizers after work, they said. But there was never a convenient place close by to stop, and pick up a good sandwich for lunch. So the pair decided to do something about it.

Indians look to reload this season
Beneath the surface, there may be a shred of uncertainty about how good Indian River’s varsity football team will be this year, given that they lost 14 starters to graduation including key offensive starters and contributors and nine defensive starters.

For what seemed like ages, Delmarva’s coastline had been absent of surf-worthy waves until Tropical Storm Ernesto wrangled her way up the coast over the Labor Day weekend, bringing swells ranging anywhere from 8 to 12 feet in height and possibly bigger, depending on the location, sets and who you ask.
