Bethany Beach
• The Bethany Beach Election Board will meet at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, at town hall.

• The Bethany Beach Landowner’s Association will host a Meet the Candidates night, on Friday, Sept. 8, at the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company’s fire hall at Route 1 and Hollywood Street. The reception is to start at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting promptly at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions for candidates Jerry Dorfman, Charles Gravatte, Joseph Healy, Lew Killmer, Tony McClenny, Tracy Mulligan, Harry Steele and Steve Wode.

• The annual election for the Town of Bethany Beach Town Council will be held in the Bethany Beach Town Meeting Room, 214 Garfield Parkway, on Saturday, Sept. 9, from noon to 6 p.m. Four town council members will be elected. Council members Jerry Dorfman, Tony McClenny, Lew Killmer, Harry Steele are up for re-election. Challengers are Charles Gravatte, Joseph Healy, Tracy Mulligan and Steve Wode. At least four of the seven members of the town council must be residents of the town, but all may be residents of the town.

Absentee ballots may be requested in person no later than 3 p.m. on the day before the election. A photocopy of proper identification (driver’s license, Social Security card, or other government-issued ID) must accompany the absentee ballot in order for it to be considered valid. Absentee ballots must be received by 4 p.m. on the day before the election.

Bethany Beach property owners do not need to register to vote in the election, but residents who are not property owners in the town must register in order to be able to vote.

• The Bethany Beach Town Council will hold its reorganizational meeting on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. at the town hall. Successful candidates for the four council seats voted upon on Sept. 9 will be installed, and the council will select council officer positions, including mayor.

• The Bethany Beach Town Council will hold a council workshop on Friday, Sept. 15, at 6:30 p.m.

• The Bethany Beach Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Friday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m.

Fenwick Island

• The Fenwick Island Town Council will hold a workshop-without-agenda (WWA) on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 9:30 a.m. at the town hall.

• Fenwick Island Vice-Mayor Theo Brans will host a beach cleanup effort on Sept. 19, at 9 a.m., at Dagsboro Street, in conjunction with the annual Coastal Cleanup.

Frankford

The Frankford Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at the town hall. The meeting was postponed from Sept. 4, due to the Labor Day holiday.

Selbyville

The Selbyville Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at the town hall. The meeting was postponed from Sept. 4, due to the Labor Day holiday.

South Bethany

The South Bethany Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at the town hall. The agenda for the meeting includes discussion of the town’s annual financial audit; first reading of Ordinance 138-06 Chapter 104, Property Maintenance, Article II, Titled “Grass and Weeds,” to Clarify § 104-7; swearing in of new Planning Commission members; and various committee and leadership reports.

Millville

The town of Millville will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at town hall.

Sussex County

• After a two-week layoff, Sussex County Council will reconvene for its weekly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in County Council Chambers in Georgetown. Council will hear updates on several wastewater projects including Millville expansion. They will also consider the selection of an architectural consultant for county buildings and hold three public hearings for applications submitted by Tidewater Utilities.

• Sussex County’s Planning and Zoning Commission will hold its bi-monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, in County Council Chambers in Georgetown. They will consider the approval of a subdivision application submitted by Palisades Land LLC. Palisades Land is asking for the subdivision of 742 acres into 1,060 lots off of Double Bridges and Camp Barnes roads, near the Assawoman Wildlife Refuge and South Bethany. Some 33 people turned out in opposition of the project, citing traffic and environmental concerns, at the public hearing last month. Only two people, outside of the developers and their representatives, supported the subdivision.
