Breaking News - Commissioners defer Estuary decision
Sussex County’s Planning and Zoning commissioners deferred a decision on the controversial Estuary project Thursday night, saying that they needed more time to discuss the subdivision application.

Minyon named to Millville Town Council
With the recent retirement of Mayor Gary Willey, Millville Town Council members had some decisions to make at their Sept. 12 meeting. The first was the selection of a new council member to fill his seat. The second was which of them should serve as deputy mayor, as Tim Droney now serves as interim mayor.

A 27-year-old Ocean View man who was visiting a friend in Wilmington was beaten and robbed there early Tuesday morning while he slept, according to New Castle County Police. Police officials have yet to release his name.

It's unbelievable
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina at this time last year, gas prices climbed to record highs across the country and locally. On Sept. 7, 2005, Delaware’s average reached a record of $3.23 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas.

Indians pull together to beat Cape
With so many players in new positions or playing at a higher level than before on Indian River’s varsity football team, it would seem logical that there may be some growing pains. But, despite glitches, the Indians came through in clutch situations for a 20-14 win over Cape Henlopen on Sept. 8.

Volleyball team spikes opponents
Last season, Delmar and Smyrna high schools added volleyball to their dance card — something that was, in fact, crucial to the creation of the Southern Henlopen Conference. Indian River won the Southern crown with an 11-7 record last season. This week in their opening week of play, the Lady Indians won their first two games by the score of 3-1 over Delmarva Christian and Southern Henlopen Conference contender Smyrna.

Soccer team kicks into hot start
Despite getting knocked off the state tournament trail last year in a second-round loss to Tower Hill, Indian River has picked up the scent by winning its first two games of the 2006 regular season.

Lady Indians go through rough spot
Two games into her Indian River varsity head-coaching debut, field hockey coach Colleen Groszer is at a loss — actually two losses. Indian River’s offense clumped together in a 2-0 season opening loss to Tatnall and then was unable to muster much of an attack until the last 15 minutes of an eventual 2-1 loss to Milford on Sept. 12.

Speedway featured 'Run What you brung' race
The Friday-night feature races at Georgetown Speedway in Georgetown on Sept. 8 were highlighted by a “Run What You Brung” race sponsored by I.G. Burton. Combined Super Late Models and Modifieds brought a variety of mostly winged cars.
