Allen J. Lister, 48

Allen J. Lister, 48, of Millsboro died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.

Lister was a refrigeration tech for Allen’s Foods for 11 years. He moved to Delaware in 1971 from Drexel Hill, Pa. Allen will be missed greatly by his family.

He is survived by his father, John L. Lister; sisters, Charlotte Arbuckle and husband William; Lynda Watson and husband George; Allyson Haynes and husband Robert; Marion Shipley, Betty Wright, June Lister; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Myrtle Lister Sr., and his mother, Allyson Burton Lister.

Services and internment will be private.



Margurite D. Bright, 52

Margurite D. Bright, 52, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Bay Health Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford.

Bright loved to crochet, garden, cook and clean. She had been a bank teller for Wilmington Trust in Millsboro. She will be missed by all. She was a member of the Sickle Cell Foundation. She attended Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and graduated in 1972.

She is survived by her husband, William L. Bright; children, Felicia Sarah Gilbert, Reneta Bright, Natina Bright, Lanier Bright, Angelina Watkins, Sheridan Gilbert, and Octavia Rattcliff; brothers and sisters, James Blackshear and wife Mary Ann; Gregory Dennis and wife Catherine; Virginia Dennis Ony and husband Milton Jr.; Gerard Blackshear and wife Gloria; and sister Carrie Williams; sister-in-law, Carolyn Blackshear; friends, Denise Johnson, Barbara Scott, Betty Gibbs and George Brown; several nieces and nephews and 10 grand-children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Eugene Blachshear in 2000.

Funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. Johns Second Baptist Church, with internment at Milford Community Cemetery, Milford.

Paula I. Hudson, 38

Paula I. Hudson, 38, of Millsboro died Sept. 27, 2006 at Christiana Hospital, Christiana.

Hudson was a loving and caring person who loved everyone. She loved to do crafts, signs and calligraphy. She was a talented artist. She received the Dorothy Oliver Award from Del Tech. She was an assistant child care director for PACTT Day Care at Sussex Tech High School in Georgetown. She was a member of Bible Church of Christ in Dagsboro. She loved to sing. She adored her family and was the true matriarch. She received the Governor’s Award in Education.

She is survived by her parents, Alvin and Esther Leonard Hudson Sr.; daughter Jessica Lanelle Hudson; brother, Alvin Hudson Jr. and fiancée Lisa Swann; Barry Hudson and his companion Carlyn; sisters, Andrea Mumford and husband Charles; Alvina Tindley and husband Daryl; and Malinda Hudson.

Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Bible Church of Christ, Dagsboro, with internment at Church of Christ Cemetery, Frankford.



Joyce Jackson Bailey, 65

Joyce Jackson Bailey, 65, of Delmar, Md., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at Deer’s Head, Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, Md.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Gary and Dawn Marie Bailey; five brothers, and six sisters; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Phillip Allen and Mary Elda Morris Jackson, and one brother.

Graveside services were scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, at Israel United Methodist Church Cemetery Lewes, with internment at Israel United Methodist Church Cemetery.



Jesse Lee Bowen, 54

Jesse Lee Bowen, 54, of Delmar, Del., died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, in Perth Amboy, N.J.

Bowen loved drag racing and he was a Vietnam War veteran.

He is survived by his companion, April Ford; children, Latrisha Parker and Henry Jr.; Fatina Johnson and Harold; Jessica Bowen, Dana Lee Carrol, Consuelo Bowen, and Rebecca Bowen; brothers and sisters, William H. Bowen Sr. and Kathleen; David Bowen Jr. and Ida; John Edward Bowen, Nancy Bowen, Melinda Bowen, and Tina Bowen; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by David Sr. and Nancy M. Fedderman Bowen.

Funeral services were scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at 12:30 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, with internment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. A viewing will be held from 11:30 to 12:30 at the funeral home.



Edith Mae King, 63

Edith Mae King, 63, of Laurel, died Thursday, Sept. 28, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.

King was born in Bishopville, Md. She enjoyed camping, grandchildren and taking care of her family.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Toomey Jr., and Thomas Toomey and wife Linda; a daughter, Debra A. Somers and husband William Somers Jr.; brothers, Thomas King and Martin King; sisters, Elizabeth King and Rosa Mitchell; and five grandchildren.

King was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Frances Hudson King.

Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, with internment at Line Cemetery in Whitesville, Md.



Dr. Alois E. Maresch, 89

Dr. Alois E. Maresch, 89, died unexpectedly in Germany after a brief illness on Sept. 16, 2006.

He was born March 8, 1917, in Teschen, Austria. He loved sports and participated in whitewater kayaking in the 1936 Olympics. He was the third generation to study medicine in Vienna and, after the war, finished his medical degree in Munich. He came to the U.S. in 1952 and after a few difficult years, settled in Lewes and worked at Beebe Medical Center. He married and had three children.

In 1958 Maresch designed and opened his own office in Dagsboro, where he worked and lived until 1974. He loved being a physician and was always available to his patients. In 1971 he married Birgitta Wolf in Munich, Germany, and after 1974 they resided in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where he started a senior physician group and was very active in a local hospital. In 1977 he moved to Pompano Beach, Fla., and divided his time between there and Germany. He loved his long walks on the beach and hiking and walking in the mountains of Germany. He enjoyed music and dancing until the very end.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Birgitta; his daughter Heidi and son-in-law George; grandsons, Christian and Carsen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Reiner and Norbert.

A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edmund’s Catholic Church, at the corner of King Charles Avenue and Laurel Street, Rehoboth Beach, with internment at Prince George’s Cemetery, Dagsboro.



Robert Steiner III, 62

Robert Steiner III, 62, of Long Neck, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at home.

He was born in Lindenwold, N.J., the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Deeney) Steiner. He was a supervisor of HVAC and a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army.

Steiner is survived by his good friend and long time companion with whom he lived, Janet Y. Shreve; his son, Robert; brother, Billy; sister, Margaret Catlin; and niece, Christine.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Marion Burton, 84

Marion Burton, 84, of Millsboro, Del., died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at Harrison House, Georgetown, Del.

Burton was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church in Millsboro and of the Indian River Senior Center in Millsboro. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by her children, Gene and Bonnie Burton; Ray and Jane Burton; Jim and Denise Burton; Bea and James Keenan; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil J. Burton, in 1998.

Funeral services were scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior. Internment will be at Carey’s Cemetery, Millsboro, Del.

John Barry Pitman, 53

John Barry Pitman, 53, of Dagsboro, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.

He was a self-employed painter and a member of Moose Lodge #2542 and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his father, John B. Pitman Jr. and stepmother, Thersa Pitman; his mother, Marie Eberhardt and stepfather, Jim Eberhardt; sisters, Susan Cain and Teri Gower; half-sister, Laura Pitman; step-sisters, Sheila Reinke and Michelle Johnson; adopted sister, Tara Saladyga; three nephews, four nieces, one great-niece; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Mariner’s Bethel Church Cemetery in Ocean View.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Mariner’s Bethel United Church, 81 Central Avenue, Ocean View, DE 19970.



Robert Duane, Korb III, 5 weeks

Robert Duane Korb III, 5 weeks, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.

He is survived by his parents, Robert D. Korb Jr. and Jocelyn P. Goslee; paternal grandfather, Robert Korb Sr. and his wife, Fay; paternal grandmother, Carolyn Korb; paternal great-grandfather, Berner Korb; paternal great-grandmother, Janann McCord; maternal grandparents, Jimmy and Belle Goslee; maternal great-grandfather, David Goslee Sr. and his wife Jane; maternal great-grandmother, Anna Lee McAllister, and her husband Robert; maternal great-grandfather, Johnny Williams and his wife Hazel; maternal great-grandmother, Bonnie Reaves; one uncle, Kevin Korb; three aunts, Courtney Korb, Bailey Goslee and Peyton Goslee; and godparents Trevor and Liz Steedman.

Funeral services were scheduled for Monday, Oct. 2, at Hastings Funeral Home, Selbyville, with internment at Evergreen Cemetery, Berlin, Md.

Olen R. ‘Oakie’ Hudson, 88

Olen R. “Oakie” Hudson, 88, of Hollywood, Fla., died Sept. 8, 2006.

He was born and raised in Roxana, Del., to the late Horace R. and Winnie K. Hudson. Olen served his country well in the 5th Army during World War II in North Africa, Italy, Sicily, Germany, England and France. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, Elks Club and Moose Lodge, all of Hollywood, Fla.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen; sons, Richard and William. He is also survived by his sister, Esther K. West and brother, Clement Hudson.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Hunter Memorial Services in Hollywood, Fla.
