Mission almost accomplished at new church
Our Lady of Guadalupe, the mission church of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, located off of Route 17, is nearing the end of its seven-year gestation.
Selbyville approves neighborhood business zone at Hudson Road
Selbyville Town Council members on Monday, May 5, approved a conditional use for a 30-acre neighborhood business commercial zone in the town’s R-4 residential district at Hudson Road and Route 54.

BREAKING NEWS: Inlet Bridge, Route 1 reopen
The Delaware State Police and Department of Transportation reopened Route 1 between Dewey Beach and Fred Hudson Road/Road 360 north of Bethany Beach and the Indian River Inlet Bridge late Tuesday afternoon, following a detailed inspection of the inlet and surrounding roadways. Remaining closed Tuesday, due to high water, were: Fred Hudson Road in the area of Route 1 and Old Mill Road in Millville, as well as several other roads in the Lewes, Slaughter Beach and Oak Orchard areas.
Lord Baltimore Elementary students learn to 'Just Say No'
The fourth- and fifth-graders of Lord Baltimore were treated to a special presentation on April 17, of “Tar Wars” a nationwide program that started in Colorado, designed to educate America’s youth about the dangers of smoking.
Collins named top teacher again at Showell
Jill Collins, first-grade teacher, was recently named Teacher of the Year at Phillip C. Showell Elementary School in Selbyville.
Lingenfelter named top teacher at SMS
Mike Lingenfelter, sixth-grade math teacher at Selbyville Middle School, was recently named Teacher of the Year at SMS. In order to win, a teacher must be nominated by either students, parents or a fellow teacher. Through the nomination and observation, a committee picks the winner.
Preliminary approval given to Selbyville Rite Aid
A new Rite Aid store in Selbyville is on track for a 2010 opening near the intersection of Route 113 and Cemetery Road, with the unanimous approval of a preliminary site plan by town council members at their April 7 meeting.
Book fair to benefit library, Delmarva authors
St. Martins in the Field Episcopal Church in Selbyville will hold its first annual Book Fair on Saturday, April 19, at the parish hall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Ron Shackle, chairman of the Evangelism Committee, said the book fair would provide a venue for local Delmarva authors and an opportunity for them to reach out to potential parishioners.

Taylor ready for 'real' retirement this time

And he was actually scouted by the Cleveland Indians — but an automobile accident when he was 15 years old abruptly ended those plans.
Selbyville hires new town administrator
Selbyville will be losing one familiar face at town hall with the retirement of 10-year Town Administrator Gary Taylor, but they’ll be gaining a familiar face to fill the role: Robert Dickerson, a 35-year veteran of management at the town’s Baltimore Trust bank branch.
Selbyville woman charged with the production of counterfeit money
The Delaware State Police recently charged a 31-year-old Selbyville woman with the production of counterfeit money.
Troop 4 detectives identified Jennifer Balascio as the suspect during their investigation. Investigators said they learned that Balascio possessed counterfeit denominations of $5, $10 and $20 bills, as well as forgery devices used to produce counterfeit money.
Selbyville dedicates month to kids' art
This past Saturday, as part of Kid’s Art Month in Selbyville, winners of the Kids’ Art Show could see their work proudly displayed at the Selbyville Public Library. And residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy the pieces in storefronts across town until almost Easter.

Route 17 reopens after weeks of detours
A segment of Roxana Road (Route 17) that had been closed for several weeks was re-opened Tuesday, March 4, around noon. The road had been closed for removal and replacement of failed crossroad pipes by Department of Transportation (DelDOT) crews.

Route 17 closure continues
A segment of Roxana Road (Route 17) remained closed early this week for removal and replacement of failed crossroad pipes by Department of Transportation (DelDOT) crews. DelDOT most recently alerted motorists that the road closure of the road between Bixler Road and Phillips Road near Selbyville had been extended until Sunday, March 2, due to weather conditions.
Library to offer Black History Month program
In honor of February’s designation as Black History Month, the Selbyville Public Library, located on the corner of Main and McCabe streets in downtown Selbyville, will be hosting “George Washington Carver: An Interpretative, Interactive Telling of the Legacy.” Willis Phelps Jr. of the Delaware Humanities Forum Speaker’s Bureau will present the program on Monday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m.

Sub-.500 seasons were likely the last things that Selbyville Middle School athletes were expecting when their football team went 3-3-1 and their boys’ basketball team fell 3-9 on the season during the 2006-2007 school year.
